How I'll Grieve
a poem
How I’ll Grieve! You were like my heart’s muse Whispering sentiments so true Sweetest rhythm I couldn’t refuse Melting away this seeping dew Dew that feels like an ache inside Where the shadows still my light And the melancholy I take in stride Reveals in me, the loneliest night A night when fears breathe loss Losing you was my darkest dread My heart would cling to the cross Knowing I’d think of all you said You said you’d always be here for me But now you’ve gone away, so far Between life and death, there’ll be Assurance of love like the brightest star Oh, my friend, since you left this life I know that I’m not the only soul Who misses you more than a wife This is the kind of hurt time can’t console Death isn’t meant to come to one so young You are gone, but will never be forgotten Your light and love, for you I’ve sung A song of tribute – missing this love begotten By a heart who knows one of these days We’ll meet again, in heavenly praise Beyond this earth, where love always stays And I know your light will surely amaze I miss you now, more than I can say But one day soon, we’ll meet again And that day, my heart won’t betray The love that lives beneath this pain This pain is my hearts way of writing A note of prayer to the One who lives Asking Him for strength as I’m fighting This war with grief – comfort He gives Comforting me through this pain Pain that tells me I’m not the same When you left, I’d never regain The light, the freedom I can’t name It is freedom from sorrow and grief Freedom that comes to those who believe Death isn’t able to touch – however brief But now I know, without you, I’ll always grieve
